The TinLink project focuses on strengthening the role of upstream and value-addition units in the development of enhanced due diligence processes in conflict-affected and high-risk areas.
Through the integration with existing technology solutions for data management and transfers, the project aims to demonstrate that using blockchain technology can be implemented at mine sites in CAHRA and can be accessed in a secure and controlled manner. Blockchain technology for minerals DD and CoC brings numerous advantages (transparency, governance simplification, cost reduction and decentralised governance) to all participants along the supply chain. These enhancements will allow for accountability, reduced DD cost, and real-time reliable data for all supply chain actors and regulatory authorities, providing for a more robust CoC.
Accountability, cost reductions, and operational effectiveness will lead to greater value remaining in the ASM community allowing for greater development. ASM sector will be given the right to so-needed data ownership through specially designed entity certificates and profiles developed by blockchain providers and offer zero cost structure to the ASM sector.
The project will develop sustainable links between tin value chains and enable market access to the ASM product. It will be scalable in any country having a responsible value-addition sector cooperating with ASM suppliers.
PROJECT DURATION: MAY 2024 – JUNE 2026
The Project Consortium represents all actors of the supply chain, including upstream, midstream, and downstream actors, with the support of NGOs and service providers.
Tinlink’s Theory of Change envisions a transparent and sustainable mineral supply chain by leveraging blockchain technology for enhanced data traceability. By fostering direct collaboration between upstream and downstream actors, and building capacity in responsible sourcing, we aim to drive both environmental and social impact while supporting global energy transitions.
The European Partnership for Responsible Minerals (EPRM) is a multi-stakeholder partnership that supports responsible production and sourcing of minerals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas and contributes to local development in and around mining communities.
