Press Release: Launch of Enhanced Due Diligence on Mining Sites in Rwanda, Uganda, and DR Congo

We are proud to announce that as of July 2024, our mobile traceability teams in Rwanda, Uganda, and DR Congo have commenced Phase 2 of Outcome 1 of the project, focusing on Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) at mining sites. This initiative represents a significant step forward in promoting greater transparency and accountability within the minerals supply chain.

Project Objectives

The project aims to:

  • Promote Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD): Establishing structured access to due diligence data to improve supply chain (SC) transparency.
  • Address Challenges in Supply Chain Mapping: Overcome the complexity and lack of digital tools that hinder downstream actors from conducting effective SC mapping exercises.
  • Redefine the Role of Midstream Players: Position the AGLR midstream as a data access point for connecting upstream and downstream actors, rather than the traditional “pinch point” of the supply chain.
  •

Key Activities

  • Enhanced Due Diligence Implementation:
Our active ground teams are working closely with suppliers to collect and evaluate data on mining practices. By doing so, they are ensuring the quality and accuracy of due diligence data available throughout the supply chain.
  • Targeted Site Visits:
    The project plans to visit:
    • 60 mine sites in Rwanda
    • 15 sites in DR Congo
    • 10 sites in Uganda
Information gathered during these visits will be made fully transparent to stakeholders and will serve as the foundation for data digitalization efforts in Outcome 2 of the project.

Driving Transparency and Digital Transformation

By bridging upstream and downstream actors and leveraging midstream access, the project is creating a direct link within the supply chain. This approach addresses traditional gaps and empowers stakeholders with reliable, structured, and digitalized data for decision-making.

Transforming the Industry

This initiative underscores our commitment to responsible sourcing, supply chain innovation, and sustainability. Through collaboration, on-the-ground data collection, and digital transformation, we are setting a new benchmark for due diligence in the global minerals sector.
